Episode 015: Interview with DJ Clovis

Happy New Year! We are so excited to release our first podcast episode of the new new year and this one is motivating if you ever thought about training for races, getting in shape, or crushing huge goals. We caught up with DJ Clovis about so many fun things like ultra races, trombone, breath control, having a swimming background, diet, what to eat when running more than a marathon, how being a teacher makes you a better performer, and so much more.

DJ Clovis has his Master’s in Bass Trombone performance from Long Beach State. During his time at Long Beach State he was a finalist in the Coleman Chamber competition in Both 2009 and 2010. DJ has studied with a number of amazing Los Angeles trombonist and has had the opportunity to play in a wide range of quintets, quartets, bands and orchestras. DJ has been teaching privately since 2003 and has had the opportunity to teach a wide range of trombonist and brass musicians. DJ has been teaching at Fairmont Private schools since 2016. He teaches PK-8th grade general music. He also is an advisor for his schools National Junior Honor Society and SEL team member.

DJ started running seriously in the Fall of 2013. He completed his first Half Marathon in March of 2014. Since then DJ has run a handful of Half marathons. He has also run 14 Marathons, 3 50 milers and one 100 mile run since 2014. DJ enjoys running and spending with his wife Katie and their dog Frankie. DJ is an avid fan of podcasts such as, Trail Runner Nation, This American Life, Radio Lab and recently of corpSonore.
