Episode 004: Interview with Dr. Christine Craddock

December 14th, 2018

Our guest on this episode is Dr. Christine Craddock, bassist and martial arts enthusiast who performers all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and beyond. We caught up with her between rehearsals in Tulsa about the impact martial arts has on her bass playing, and how she uses it in her everyday musical life from controlling her mindset to warming up her body physically. We also talk about bassists she admires, and how she deals with all of the driving. We go on a few fun tangents and giggle a whole bunch in this episode, and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Dr. Christine Craddock has performed extensively as a soloist and ensemble musician.  She currently plays with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Tulsa Symphony and the Las Colinas Symphony in Dallas, and serves as associate principal bassist of the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale in Texas.  Previously she has also won fellowships to attend the Marrowstone Music Festival in Seattle and the Texas Music Festival in Houston.

Christine has studied double bass with Jeff Bradetich, Diana Gannett, and Anthony Stoops, and holds performance degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Oklahoma.  She has been adjunct professor of double bass at Oklahoma Baptist University since 2016, and in 2012 she served as interim double bass faculty at the University of Oklahoma.  She has also coached OU’s double bass All-State workshops and has been a faculty member of the Oklahoma Bass Bash since 2014.
